microFIT Overview

What is microFIT?

The microFIT Program was introduced in Ontario on October 1, 2009, to provide homeowners and other Eligible Participants with the opportunity to develop a 10 kW or less renewable electricity generation project on their property. Suppliers are paid a guaranteed price over a 20-year term for the electricity they produce and deliver to the province’s electricity grid.

As of December 1, 2017, the IESO officially closed the application window for the microFIT Program and ceased accepting any further applications. Those interested in small-scale renewable generation may consider contacting their Local Distribution Company to determine if there are any net metering opportunities in their area.

Beacon is IESO’s online contract management tool that enables Suppliers to manage their active microFIT Contracts. All microFIT Contract requests (e.g., assignment, amendment, etc.) must be completed online via Beacon. If you require assistance, email the microFIT team or call 1-833-413-6348 (MFIT).

Please note that in signing up and using Beacon, you agree to follow and be bound by the Beacon Terms of Use. The IESO may change these Terms of Use at any time. Your use of Beacon following any such change constitutes your agreement to follow and be bound by the Terms of Use, as modified.
