Second Long-Term (LT2) Request For Proposals

Ontario’s electricity demand is forecast to rise over the long term, prompting the IESO’s ongoing large-scale resource procurement efforts to ensure sufficient supply will be available into the 2030s and beyond.

The LT2 RFP is the IESO’s primary competitive mechanism to procure capacity resources, which are capable of providing supply specifically during periods of peak demand; and energy resources, which generate electricity over a longer period of time.

To maintain the province’s reliable, affordable, and sustainable grid, the IESO plans to run multiple windows of the LT2 RFP, each with a distinct capacity and energy stream.

LT2 RFP Updates

Engagement for the second window of the energy and capacity stream of the Long-Term 2 Request for Proposals (LT2(e-2) RFP and LT2(c-2) RFP) has begun. The first set of draft RFP and Contract documents for the LT2(e-2) RFP (energy stream) can be found below. The first set of draft RFP and Contract documents for the LT2(c-2) RFP (capacity stream) will be posted in the near future.

The IESO has concluded the first window of the energy and capacity stream of the Long-Term 2 Request for Proposals (LT2(e-1) RFP and LT2(c-1) RFP) and has executed Contracts with the Selected Proponents. Details of these procurements are provided at the bottom of this page.

First window of the LT2 RFPs

Results

The first window of the energy stream of the Long-Term 2 Request for Proposals (LT2(e-1) RFP) has now concluded. The IESO executed Contracts with 13 Selected Proponents, totaling 1,115.10 MW of Maximum Contract Capacity and an aggregate Expected Annual Imputed Production of 2.37 TWh.

The first window of the capacity stream of the Long-Term 2 Request for Proposals (LT2(c-1) RFP) has now concluded. The IESO executed Contracts with three (3) Selected Proponents, representing a total of 640.00 MW of Maximum Contract Capacity.
