Regional Electricity Planning - Toronto

Forecasting and Planning

Regional electricity planning is underway for the Toronto region. This engagement initiative will provide interested parties with an opportunity to offer input for consideration during the regional planning process.

Regional electricity plans take up to a 20-year outlook on every region in the province. The planning process provides an opportunity for communities to tell the IESO about anticipated needs and priorities, and to contribute to the development of the options for meeting a region’s future electricity needs.

Interested parties in this engagement initiative include but are not limited to:

  • Municipalities including the City of Toronto, City of Mississauga and City of Pickering
  • Indigenous communities including:
    • Mississaugas of the Credit,
    • Six Nations of the Grand River,
    • Haudenosaunee Confederacy Chiefs Council,
    • York Region Métis Council
    • the Huron Wendat of Wendake, Quebec
  • Local distribution companies (LDCs) who serve the community and already participate as part of the Technical Working Group, including Toronto Hydro Electric System Limited, Elexicon Energy Inc., Hydro One Networks Inc. (Distribution), and Alectra Utilities
  • Transmitters (Hydro One Networks Inc.)
  • Consumers and service providers for the area

All interested parties are invited to participate in this engagement initiative.

Toronto Region Working Group - A Technical Working Group consisting of the four LDCs in the region, the transmitter, and the IESO will use this regional planning engagement initiative to incorporate input while developing the Scoping Assessment Outcome Report for the region.
