Regional Electricity Planning - Toronto

Forecasting and Planning

Regional electricity planning is underway for the Toronto region. This engagement initiative will provide interested parties with an opportunity to offer input for consideration during the regional planning process.

Regional electricity plans take up to a 20-year outlook on every region in the province. The planning process provides an opportunity for communities to tell the IESO about anticipated needs and priorities, and to contribute to the development of the options for meeting a region’s future electricity needs.

Interested parties in this engagement initiative include but are not limited to:

  • Municipalities including the City of Toronto, City of Mississauga and City of Pickering
  • Indigenous communities that may be potentially impacted or may have an interest based on treaty territory, traditional territory or traditional land uses:
    • Alderville First Nation
    • Chippewas of Beausoleil First Nation
    • Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation
    • Chippewas of Rama First Nation
    • Curve Lake First Nation
    • Hiawatha First Nation
    • Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation
    • Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation
    • Six Nations of the Grand River as represented by Six Nations Elected Council as well as the
    • Haudenosaunee Confederacy Chiefs Council
    • Métis Nation of Ontario
  • Local distribution companies (LDCs)
  • Transmitters
  • Local residents and businesses in the area

All interested parties are invited to participate in this engagement initiative.

Toronto Region Working Group - The Technical Working Group consists of the IESO as the lead, the local transmitter (Hydro One Networks Inc.), and the LDC (Toronto Hydro – Electric System Limited). The Technical Working Group will use this engagement initiative to incorporate input while developing the IRRP.
