FIT Overview

Beacon will be permanently discontinued for Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) contracts on July 31, 2025, as the IESO is transitioning to a new contract management tool intended for internal use only. This change does not impact any party’s ability to fulfil their obligations under the FIT contract.

Suppliers are encouraged to download and save their contract documents prior to this date, if necessary.

Starting immediately, FIT Suppliers should initiate all requests (i.e. Assignments, Changes of Control, Secured Lender, etc.) by emailing FIT.Contract@ieso.ca.

Please note, this change will only apply to FIT contracts. microFIT contracts will continue to use Beacon to access, view and manage their microFIT contracts.

Should you have any questions, please contact FIT.Contract@ieso.ca.

What is the Feed-in Tariff Program?

The Feed-In Tariff (FIT) Program was developed to encourage and promote greater use of renewable energy sources including on-shore wind, waterpower, renewable biomass, biogas, landfill gas and solar photovoltaic (PV) for electricity generating projects in Ontario.

As a standardized way to contract for renewable energy generation, Ontario’s FIT Program was one of North America’s first comprehensive guaranteed pricing structures for renewable electricity production, offering stable prices under long-term contracts.

Per the December 16, 2016 directive from the Minister of Energy, the final FIT Application Period was held in 2016 and the IESO ceased accepting applications under the FIT Program.
