Operations
The IESO informs stakeholders of system operating conditions through advisory notices and operating states. Recent operating events during extreme weather have high-lighted opportunities to improve what the IESO communicates to stakeholders.
This engagement will be delivered in two phases. Phase one will be brief and will focus on two new advisory notices that could be communicated by the IESO. The goal of phase one is to enhance situational awareness to market participants when the potential for stressed system conditions are more likely to occur. This phase will involve minor internal manual changes. Phase two will require market rule and market manual amendments and a longer, more in-depth stakeholder engagement process. The goal of phase two is to revise the advisory notice framework and add new operating state(s) in order to provide greater clarity on situational awareness when market participant actions may be needed.

The IESO will inform Market Participants (MPs) about an additional operating state of system operating conditions to improve operational awareness and to allow MPs the opportunity to plan and prepare their operations accordingly, and minimize risk to reliability and enhanced grid resilience. The IESO will present on key changes since the previous engagement webinar, held in April 2021, including the introduction of a new operation state. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback on what actions they may take if this new operation state is declared. |
