Stakeholder Engagement Update
This engagement update provides a snapshot of all active IESO engagement activities and is updated on a monthly basis. It helps support a greater understanding of linkages between engagements, and a foundation for more comprehensive and integrated updates.

Innovation and Sector Evolution White Paper Series: Artificial Intelligence (AI) The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Whitepaper is part of the IESO’s Innovation Whitepaper Series. The outreach and engagement activities will help inform the IESO on future strategy of this technology and help understand the goals of market participants with respect to AI-based interactions with IESO markets and programs. This engagement webinar will inform stakeholders of the objectives of the AI whitepaper and seek feedback on key considerations.

Industrial Energy Efficiency Program (IEEP) The IESO will provide stakeholders with the opportunity to comment on the draft final program documents including key contract terms regarding project and participant eligibility, incentive payments, and project evaluation criteria. This will serve as the final engagement session before program materials are finalized, with a planned program launch in spring 2022.

The Ministry of Energy has asked the IESO to assess options for the establishment and management of renewable and clean energy credits (CECs) within the province. The IESO is required to submit recommendations by July 2, 2022, which will utilize stakeholder input and feedback received. This engagement session is the first of two planned sessions between now and Q2 2022, with additional opportunities for more focused stakeholder discussions and survey participation. In this session, stakeholders will have the opportunity to learn more about CECs in the Ontario market, provide feedback on their clean energy goals, how those goals can be met and how clean energy credits could support those goals and identify initial key considerations for the design options of CECs. |

This IESO will provide an overview of the Minister of Energy’s ask that the IESO evaluate a moratorium on the procurement of new natural gas generating stations in this decade (reliability, cost, environmental considerations) and develop an achievable pathway to achieve zero emissions in the electricity sector. The session will inform stakeholders of the IESO’s proposed study approach (qualitative and quantitative) as well as opportunities, limitations, and key timelines. An outline of the assumptions and on other existing or emerging technologies that the province should consider in its approach will be presented for stakeholder input. |
