New Major Project Identification Committee Process

May 8, 2026

New mines, manufacturing facilities, housing developments, and transit projects, are driving electricity demand across Ontario. To help plan for this growth and ensure new projects can connect to the grid when ready, the IESO is launching a Major Projects Identification Committee (MPIC) process.

This process will help identify major projects early so planners better understand where electricity is needed and how to support new developments. It will also help project developers get started on their grid connection application by connecting them with the IESO, facilitating early education and information sharing.

To support this, a new webpage will be available where anyone planning a project in Ontario can share their project details as early as possible to begin the MPIC process.

The IESO will host a public webinar on May 25 to explain how the MPIC process works and how it can help participants. Register in advance here.
