Reliability Outlook Released: Ontario’s Electricity System Prepared for Next 18 Months
September 26, 2024
Ontario has emerged from a summer of warmer-than-normal conditions that saw the system manage one of the highest peaks experienced in the past 10 years, and its electricity system is expected to have adequate supply over the Outlook period, according to the latest Reliability Outlook, which was released on Monday, September 23.
Electricity demand in Ontario is projected to increase by 2.3 per cent in 2025 because of the addition of large industrial loads to the grid, increasing electrification throughout the economy and growing economic activity from falling interest rates.
During the Outlook period, two units at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station are scheduled to retire by the end of 2024, while new and refurbished resources coming into operation will include Darlington G1’s return to service, the connection of the Oneida energy storage project and the first resources secured via the Same Technology Upgrades Solicitation.
