Planning for Toronto’s Energy Needs: Electricity Planning Engagement Launch and Materials Posted

April 11, 2024

A new round of regional electricity planning for the City of Toronto was launched at a press conference today with the Minister of Energy, Todd Smith, Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow, and the IESO’s President and CEO, Lesley Gallinger. The news release is available via the Ministry of Energy’s newsroom.

Toronto is growing because of increasing population, economic growth and the electrification of transit, heating and industry. As electricity demand grows in step with the city, the IESO is developing a 20-year plan to meet increasing electricity needs, by seeking input from all engaged participants on demand scenarios and evaluating all options to meet them.

The first regional electricity planning webinar for the Toronto region will be held on Tuesday, April 16 at 10 a.m. to provide an overview of the regional electricity planning underway, as well as seek feedback on draft electricity demand forecast scenarios and the proposed engagement plan. Please register in advance to participate. You can view the meeting materials on the engagement webpage.

To help support participation in the upcoming webinar, an introductory video is available on the IESO’s YouTube channel that provides an overview of Ontario’s electricity landscape, regional electricity planning and the critical role of community and stakeholder input.
