IESO to Observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

September 28, 2023

This Saturday marks both the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day, two observances that honour the Survivors of Canada’s residential school system.

It is a day of remembrance and reflection, dedicated to recognizing the painful legacy of the residential school system in Canada. It is also a time to acknowledge the profound impact it has had on Indigenous communities across the country.

The IESO encourages everyone to wear an orange shirt on Saturday to commemorate the residential school experience, honour the healing journey of the survivors and their families, and commit to the ongoing process of reconciliation.

Driving meaningful and lasting change takes all of us. The commitment to reconciliation extends far beyond this day and we all play an essential role in fostering a culture of safety and inclusion for our peers and communities.
