Chuck Farmer to Assume Role as IESO's Chief Energy Transition Officer
August 31, 2023
Over the last two years, the energy sector transformation has surfaced a very significant priority of ensuring the reliable provision of electricity needs in an increasingly complex, challenging and changing environment to support Ontario’s economic future. This focus has led to a shift in complexity within the role of planning, conservation and resource adequacy at the IESO.
The drive to decarbonization and electrification, and the timing for such, have also increased the critical functionality of the portfolio and risk to Ontario if needs are not sufficiently met.
As such a new role of Vice-President of Planning, Conservation & Resource Adequacy (PCRA) and Chief Energy Transition Officer (CETO) has been created to lead this work. Chuck Farmer will be taking on this important position effective immediately.
As Vice-President of Planning, Conservation & Resource Adequacy and CETO, Chuck will be responsible for ensuring that the IESO plans appropriately for a range of potential future outcomes based on the many variables impacting the integration of the electricity system, including power system planning projections of load growth, energy prices, the achievable potential for conservation, the projected service retirements of nuclear generating stations, overall power system and customer reliability, capital investments, transmission planning, infrastructure development and resource acquisition.
