First Heat Wave of Summer Results in New Peak for 2023
July 6, 2023
Ontario experienced a peak demand of 22,686 MW on Wednesday, July 5, a new high for the year. Temperatures and demand are expected to come down tomorrow.
Ontario has a diverse supply mix and a variety of tools available to maintain the reliability of the grid. This includes deferring planned generator and transmission maintenance, imports from our neighbours and customer demand response.
The IESO also maintains several tools, including the Power Data webpage, that provides easy access to market data and Peak Tracker, which provides an hourly demand forecast for the day ahead and a peak demand forecast that looks six days out.
