Celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day
June 22, 2023
National Indigenous Peoples Day took place on June 21. Every year, this occasion is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the cultures and contributions of Indigenous Nations and groups in Canada.
Indigenous communities play a vital role in Ontario's electricity sector. Indigenous-led energy projects are creating jobs and economic growth opportunities. Increased education and capacity-building are also developing a diverse and highly skilled workforce. In addition, innovative solutions to the unique energy challenges facing Indigenous communities are helping to build energy independence, while making Ontario's electricity system cleaner and smarter.
The IESO is grateful for its relationships with First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples and looks forward to continuing to learn from and work with Indigenous communities to strengthen Ontario’s electricity system.
