Pathways to Decarbonization Study Underway
March 3, 2022
The IESO’s Pathways to Decarbonization study is now underway, exploring the potential pathways for reaching a reliable, affordable, decarbonized electricity system in Ontario.
The first public engagement held last week introduced stakeholders to the IESO’s approach to this work, and the study’s preliminary assumptions have now been posted for feedback.
The assumptions represent the key inputs the IESO will use to conduct its analysis, incorporating an electricity demand projection substantially higher than existing IESO forecasts based on aggressive electrification efforts across the province. They detail relevant policy announcements and a wide range of resources, and their characteristics, that could be used to reach a zero-emissions goal, including conservation, imports and energy storage.
Stakeholders are encouraged to provide evidence-based feedback on these assumptions through the IESO website.
Discussions will continue at the March stakeholder engagement days. A recording of the February engagement session has been posted and can be viewed here.
