New Engagements to Launch at February Stakeholder Engagement Meetings

February 3, 2022

Pathways to Decarbonization

The IESO is undertaking a Pathways to Decarbonization Project as part of the Minister of Energy's request to evaluate a moratorium on the procurement of new natural gas generating stations, and develop a pathway to achieve zero emissions in Ontario’s electricity system.

As part of this project, the IESO is engaging with interested parties to inform stakeholders about the IESO’s approach to the study and key timelines. As the IESO works to verify or substantiate assumptions to be used in the analysis, stakeholders will have the opportunity to provide input on these assumptions as well as provide insights on existing or emerging technologies. In particular, the IESO is seeking input with a strong focus on technical analysis.

The first engagement webinar will be held on February 24. More information can be found on the Pathways to Decarbonization engagement page.

Clean Energy Credits

A Clean Energy Credits engagement webinar will be held on February 24 to discuss the Ministry of Energy’s request to assess options for the establishment of a voluntary clean energy credit market in Ontario. Engagement with stakeholders will take place between February and June 2022, to meet the report-back timeline of July 2022. In Q1 2022, engagement webinars will be held to gather information on stakeholder clean energy goals, how these goals can be met and how clean energy credits could support those goals. The IESO encourages all stakeholders and particularly industrial associations, commercial/institutional customers, LDCs, renewable and clean energy generators to stay informed and participate in this engagement. For further information and to register, visit the Clean Energy Credits engagement webpage.

Long-Term (LT) RFP

As discussed with stakeholders during the January Resource Adequacy engagement session, the engagement on the development and design of the LT RFP will be conducted via a dedicated engagement space that will commence on the morning of Tuesday, February 8, 2022. The materials for this meeting are available now, for further information and to register, visit the LT RFP engagement webpage.
