IESO Energy Support Programs Support Indigenous Capacity Building

January 14, 2021

Applications from 57 Indigenous communities and organizations in Ontario have recently been approved for $6.8 million in total funding through the IESO’s Indigenous Energy Support Programs. These programs promote broad, equitable participation in Ontario’s energy sector by supporting community capacity building, including energy planning and renewable energy project development, as well as the building of energy awareness, knowledge and skills related to energy projects.

After extensive engagement with Indigenous communities and organizations in the summer and fall of 2020, the IESO revised some aspects of the programs to ensure they were better aligned with Indigenous needs and priorities. Together, this suite of programs is designed to build the local capacity required to undertake community energy planning and projects.

Further details on the recipients and their respective projects will be available once funding agreements have been finalized. In the meantime, you can find more information on the Energy Support Programs on the IESO website.
