Q3 2020 Reliability Outlook now available
September 24, 2020
The Q3 2020 Reliability Outlook indicates electricity consumption patterns are gradually returning to pre-COVID levels. However, there remains some uncertainty about the pandemic’s impacts on demand for electricity over the next 18 months and beyond. There is a forecast surplus of capacity for winter 2020/2021, a trend that is expected to continue over the next few winters. In contrast, there is a summer capacity need that is expected to increase in the coming years. A capacity auction will be held on December 2, 2020 for the summer 2021 obligation period, in which resources will compete to meet Ontario electricity needs cost-effectively. The full outlook is available on the IESO web site.
