New white paper explores transmission-distribution interoperability frameworks
July 9, 2020
A new IESO white paper aims to give readers a practical understanding of how interoperability between the transmission and distribution systems could evolve to help realize the benefits of growing numbers of distributed energy resources, while maintaining system reliability.
Development of a Transmission-Distribution Interoperability Framework examines potential frameworks to guide interoperability with a focus on two types of entities – the provincial system operator, such as the IESO, and local distribution system operators. In exploring potential models, the paper assesses the roles and responsibilities of and interfaces between key players, the operational systems needed to enable this coordination, and the relative strengths and weaknesses of each.
