IESO white paper explores the coordination of non-wires alternatives using market constructs
June 4, 2020
With the costs and capabilities of distributed energy resources (DERs) improving and technology enabling greater visibility and control over these resources, DERs offer considerable potential to create new efficiencies and increase the reliability of Ontario’s electricity system. In its latest white paper, the IESO assesses the economics of DERs and looks at how expanding their ability to provide value, both locally and to the broader system, could support resource adequacy and efficient market outcomes.
The paper, which was informed through stakeholder feedback, explores the use of energy and capacity markets to secure DER services, and assesses market design considerations. As DER penetration increases, this includes the need for robust market and operational processes between a transmission system operator and distribution system operators. Learn more.
