IESO update on COVID-19 response

March 10, 2020

Today, I would like to share with you some steps the IESO is taking amid growing concerns associated with the COVID-19 virus. While public health officials continue to reassure us that the risk is low, out of an abundance of caution, we are implementing some precautionary measures in light of our responsibility to ensure the reliable operation of the Ontario electricity grid.

As of March 11, all stakeholder engagement meetings which are often well attended, including Regional Electricity Forums, the Stakeholder Advisory Committee, the Technical Panel and other stakeholder engagement initiatives will be conducted only through conference call or webinar. This move provides a platform for ongoing stakeholder feedback for the foreseeable future while minimizing risks for both our employees and stakeholders.

The IESO has also introduced controls for visitors to our three locations including Clarkson. We now require visitors who have traveled to an affected zone or are exhibiting symptoms to refrain from visiting our facilities.

These are the first of a number of new controls that we expect to put in place to address the uncertainty associated with the COVID-19 virus. The IESO’s executive leadership team is meeting on a frequent basis to assess the changing situation, plan for potential outcomes and take appropriate actions as circumstances dictate. I will continue to keep you informed.

Peter Gregg
President and CEO, IESO
