IESO receives contract review directive
November 21, 2019
As part of the Ontario government’s focus on identifying opportunities to reduce electricity costs for consumers, the Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines has issued a directive requiring the IESO to retain a third party to review existing generation contracts. A report on key findings and recommendations resulting from the review is due by February 28, 2020.
The process of retaining a third party to conduct the review is underway, and the IESO is also seeking the perspectives of contract counterparties on potential cost-savings opportunities. All outcomes of the review will need to align with Ontario’s electricity needs, taking into consideration system reliability and impacts to Indigenous, municipal and local partnerships.
