Release of Single Schedule Market High-Level Design a Market Renewal Program milestone
September 27, 2018
With the release this week of the Single Schedule Market (SSM) High-Level Design, the first in a series of four documents that will capture the key concepts and decisions guiding implementation of reforms to the province’s electricity markets, the IESO is one step closer to delivering a more stable and efficient marketplace.
Collectively, the decisions included in this high-level design, starting with the replacement of uniform pricing for market participants with pricing that reflects the true cost of producing and consuming electricity at a given location, will help resolve existing inefficiencies, reduce the complexity associated with out-of-market payments and pave the way for other cost-savings initiatives, including the day-ahead market.
The culmination of 18 months of consultation with stakeholders, the document is both a comprehensive summary of the decisions that will enable the province to move to a SSM and a stepping-off point for addressing the more detailed work that will need to be completed before implementation.
