IESO is finalizing Demand Response Pilot Program contracts

August 6, 2015

The IESO is finalizing contracts for 20 demand response (DR) projects to assess their ability to follow changes in electricity consumption and help balance supply and demand. These are the successful projects in the IESO's recent DR Pilot Program RFP. The individual projects range in capacity from 1 megawatt (MW) to 35 MW and are located in transmission zones across the province, each with unique technical characteristics, requirements and constraints.

The successful projects were proposed by five companies – EnerShift Corporation, Renewable Energy Systems Canada Inc. (RES Canada), Conestoga Cold Storage, Tembec Industries Inc. and HCE Energy Inc. – and represent nearly 80 MW of aggregate DR capacity. The chosen DR providers also represent a mix of existing and new participants, consistent with the IESO's ongoing efforts to open Ontario's energy markets to new players. The two-year contracts offered by the IESO have a start date of May 1, 2016. More information is available on Demand Response Pilot webpage.
