Opening Remarks from Lesley Gallinger

Emerging technologies, decarbonisation, and growing electricity supply needs are among the drivers transforming Ontario’s electricity sector. IESO President and CEO Lesley Gallinger will speak to these changes and her view of what’s needed for a reliable, sustainable, and affordable electricity future.

Hybrid Integration Project

The Enabling Resources Program session will begin with an update on the next steps of the draft Enabling Resources work plan. The IESO will then present the Foundational Participation Models for Hybrid resources, discuss the evaluation criteria for these participation models, share potential risks, and seek stakeholder feedback.

Updates to IESO Monitoring Requirements: Phasor Data

An update will be provided to stakeholders on the proposed Market Rule and draft market manual amendments specifying synchrophasor monitoring requirements. In response to stakeholders’ requests during prior engagement sessions, the IESO will also present qualitative benefit analysis and quantitative cost range analyses for PMUs deployment in Ontario.

Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Roadmap - Stakeholder DER Presentations

The IESO will welcome stakeholders to present their perspectives on the DERs that are most likely to emerge in Ontario and how they should be incorporated into wholesale markets to inform the Market Vision Project.

Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Roadmap - DER Potential Study

In this second stakeholder session related to the DER Potential Study, the IESO will introduce the consultant, who will then walk stakeholders through the project plan, covering key projects phases and timelines. Next, the consultant will present the initial assessment of DER technologies recommended for inclusion in the study along with rationale. Lastly, the consultant will outline other parameters and considerations that must be decided upon for the study, such as data requirements and scenarios. Stakeholder input will be welcome through each segment of the session.

Resource Adequacy

At this engagement session, the IESO will continue discussions around the medium term RFP, including initial response to feedback from the August meeting and further detail on the procurement design. The IESO will also provide an update on planned design and implementation activities related to Capacity Auction Enhancements for Q4.

The second part of the meeting will be primarily focused on Demand Response resources, where the IESO will present preliminary results of the Hourly Demand Response baseline methodology review and provide an opportunity for any further discussions related to design enhancements for the 2022 Capacity Auction.

Market Renewal Program (MRP) Implementation - Market Power Mitigation Market Rules and Market Manuals

The Market Power Mitigation batch of draft market rules and market manuals were published on August 12 and are open for stakeholder review and feedback until October 15. This meeting will be an opportunity for stakeholders to ask clarification questions on the draft batch of market rules and market manuals. Stakeholders are encouraged to submit questions in advance to engagement@ieso.ca.
