This engagement update provides a snapshot of all active IESO engagement activities and is updated on a monthly basis. It helps support a greater understanding of linkages between engagements, and a foundation for more comprehensive and integrated updates.
The IESO will engage stakeholders with a quarterly update on solutions for practical issues that arise when implementing Market Renewal, including discussion of the timing of Day-Ahead Market inputs, and thermal states for binding commitments.
The IESO will discuss the approach to its Operability Assessment being conducted to support the Pathways to Decarbonization study. The session will focus on the key elements of operability as it relates to managing a variety of real-time conditions on the power system, and will discuss its role in ensuring viable and reliable pathways to decarbonization of Ontario’s electricity system.
The IESO has been experiencing an issue with OR where the amount of scheduled OR is not fully accessible. This issue could create challenges for the IESO to recover the supply-demand balance after a system event, and result in unfair cost to the market. The IESO initiated this engagement in order to better understand and develop potential solutions to this issue. Solutions and market rules have been proposed and discussed with Stakeholders as well as the Technical Panel.
Due to implementation concerns, the IESO is reducing the scope of the solutions previously proposed for this initiative. At this meeting, the IESO will describe the change to Stakeholders and highlight the associated modifications to the proposed market rules.
