Today's Communities Powering Tomorrow

December 06, 2021  |  Video

Many communities across Ontario are increasingly looking at emerging technologies in the electricity sector to achieve economic and environmental goals.

A new video from the IESO provides a glimpse into communities of the future – one that gives homeowners more choice and control over their electricity consumption and even allows for the production of electricity. This video features Altona Towns, a new community in Pickering, Ontario which comprises a fully integrated microgrid with solar panels, electric vehicle chargers and energy storage.

With the support of the IESO’s Grid Innovation Fund, this residential microgrid is demonstrating how homeowners can save money by reducing the amount of electricity needed from the grid, while helping make the provincial electricity system more affordable and reliable for all Ontarians.
