North of Sudbury Bulk Planning

Forecasting and Planning

The engagement activities to support the North of Sudbury Bulk Plan that actively involved communities and stakeholders in shaping the future of Ontario's transmission system have been completed.

The North of Sudbury Bulk Plan was initiated in response to rapidly increasing electricity demand, driven primarily by mining development and mineral processing, and new resources being connected to supply electricity to the grid. With the northeast also being served by aging infrastructure, critical investments are required to replace equipment nearing end of life to safeguard reliability. Together, these factors led to a focused bulk system assessment to ensure the transmission system can support near-term demand growth and long-term resource integration while preserving flexibility for future development and managing ratepayer risk.
