Technical Requirements for Large Computational Loads Connecting to the Ontario Power System

Operations

This page is dedicated to the Independent Electricity System Operator’s (IESO) Technical Requirements for Large Computational Loads Connecting to the Ontario Power System initiative.

The IESO has identified a clear gap on the existing technical performance requirements in the Market Rules for the integration of large computational loads such as artificial intelligence (AI) facilities and cryptocurrency facilities. In response, the IESO has developed new technical requirements to address the gaps and is initiating a stakeholder engagement to share the proposed requirements, gather feedback, and discuss any concerns with all stakeholders.

The document posted includes both new and existing technical requirements to give the stakeholders a whole picture of the technical requirements needed for connecting a large computational load in Ontario power system. After the stakeholder engagement is completed, the IESO will update the new requirements into the Market Rules or relevant Market Manuals.
