Regional Electricity Planning to Peterborough to Kingston

Forecasting and Planning

Regional electricity planning in the Peterborough to Kingston region was completed in November 2021 with the release of a long-term electricity plan – Integrated Regional Resource Plan (IRRP). This engagement initiative provided communities and stakeholders with an opportunity to offer input for consideration into the development of the IRRP.

Regional electricity plans take a 20-year outlook on every region in the province. The planning process provides an opportunity for communities to tell the IESO about anticipated needs and priorities and to contribute to the development of the options for meeting this region’s future electricity needs.

All interested parties that were invited to participate in this engagement initiative include but are not limited to:

  • Municipalities of Frontenac County, Hasting County, Northumberland County, Peterborough County, Prince Edward County, parts of Lennox and Addington County, and related municipalities.
  • Indigenous communities including the Kawartha Nishnawbe, Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte, Curve Lake First Nation and Alderville First Nation26
  • Local distribution companies (LDCs) who serve the community including Eastern Ontario Power, Elexicon Energy, Kingston Hydro, Lakefront Utilities, Peterborough Utilities, Hydro One Networks, and the IESO
  • Transmitters
  • Consumers and service providers for the area

Additional details on the IESO’s plans to engage with communities and interested parties throughout this process can be found in the final engagement plan.

Peterborough to Kingston Technical Working Group- A Technical Working Group consisting of the six LDCs in the region (listed above), the local transmitter, Hydro One Networks and the IESO will use this regional planning engagement initiative to consider input that will identify and meet local electricity needs.
