Regional Electricity Planning - Renfrew

Forecasting and Planning

The second cycle of regional electricity planning for the Renfrew region was completed in December 2022, with the release of an Integrated Regional Resource Plan (IRRP). A Regional Infrastructure Plan (RIP) led by Hydro One will be initiated next, as part of the regional planning process. This engagement initiative provided communities and stakeholders with an opportunity to offer input for consideration in the development of the IRRP.

Regional electricity plans take up to a 20-year outlook on every region in the province. The planning process provides an opportunity for communities to tell the IESO about anticipated needs and priorities, and to contribute to the development of the options for meeting this region’s future electricity needs.

Interested parties that were invited to participate in this engagement initiative and may include but are not limited to:

  • The towns of Arnprior, Deep River, Laurentian Hills, Petawawa and Renfrew. As well as the townships of Admaston/Bromley, Bonnechere Valley, Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan, Greater Madawaska, Head, Clara and Maria Horton, Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards, Laurentian Valley, Madawaska Valley, McNab/Braeside, North Algona Wilberforce and Whitewater Region; as well as the City of Pembroke.
  • Indigenous communities and organizations including Algonquins of Pikwakanagan and Algonquins of Ontario Consultation Office. First Nation communities, Alderville, Curve Lake, Hiawatha, and Mississaugas of Scugog Island are located nearby. The Huron Wendat Nation of Quebec has expressed their interest in the Renfrew area due to their historical presence in southern Ontario. The Renfrew region also includes the MNO Ottawa Region Métis Council, with the MNO High Land Waters Métis Council located close by to the south.
  • Local distribution companies (LDCs) who serve the community including Ottawa River Power Corporation, Renfrew Hydro Inc., and Hydro One Networks
  • Transmitters
  • Consumers and service providers for the area

Renfrew Technical Working Group - A Technical Working Group consisting of the three LDCs in the region (listed above), the local transmitter, Hydro One Networks and the IESO will use this regional planning engagement initiative to consider input that will help to inform the development of an Integrated Regional Resource Plan (IRRP) for the region.

Additional details on the IESO’s plans to engage communities and interested parties throughout the process are outlined in the engagement plan.
