The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) has launched its first 3-year plan under a new, 12-year electricity Demand Side Management (eDSM) Framework beginning in 2025, following the conclusion of the previous framework at the end of 2024.
The new eDSM Framework will be delivered through a series of three-year program plans, designed to provide ongoing opportunities for consumers and businesses to manage their electricity use while responding to the province’s evolving electricity system needs. eDSM is one of the elements of the IESO’s Resource Adequacy Framework that ensures system reliability while supporting affordability and sustainability through assisting customers to manage their electricity use.
As part of the eDSM framework, the IESO will evolve the current industrial program (Industrial Energy Efficiency Program) to increase program participation by enabling industrial consumers to undertake demand-side management projects with an emphasis on process improvements and system optimization. This engagement will provide an overview of the proposed program design elements, including: project timelines, funding models, and new construction. Feedback from this engagement will inform the new industrial program set to launch in the fall of 2025.
The IESO will host an engagement session to introduce the new 12-year electricity Demand Side Management Framework, the first 3-year plan, and seek feedback on the plan and future program opportunities.
