OEB Approves IESO Usage Fee

August 15, 2024

The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) has issued a Decision and Order approving the IESO’s fee application for 2024. Effective September 1, 2024, domestic customers will be charged a usage fee of $1.4516/MWh and export customers will be charged a usage fee of $1.2549/MWh. The new rates will be applied as of September 1, 2024 and will be reflected on the September 30, 2024 preliminary settlement statements.

The OEB has also approved the IESO’s 2025 fees of $1.4854/MWh for domestic customers and $1.4333/MWh for exports on an interim basis, pending additional information.

The IESO’s expenditures, revenue requirements and fees from this incremental application will support the work underway to implement the government’s Powering Ontario’s Growth plan. This builds on other key priorities that were outlined in the IESO’s 2023-2025 Business Plan, including ensuring resource adequacy, enabling new resources, fostering innovation, exploring pathways to decarbonization and advancing market renewal.

More details can be found in the OEB’s Decision and Order (EB-2024-0004). You can learn more about the IESO’s priority initiatives and financial plans in its 2023-2025 Business Plan.
