Regional Electricity Planning - London Area

Forecasting and Planning

Regional electricity planning has kicked-off in the London Area electrical region to ensure a reliable supply of electricity, and to support local growth and economic development. Regional planning looks at the unique needs of each region, and considers wire and non-wire options and innovative resources to meet the needs. This engagement initiative will provide interested parties with an opportunity to offer input for consideration during the regional planning process.

Regional electricity plans take up to a 20-year outlook on every region in the province. The planning process provides an opportunity for participants to tell the IESO about anticipated needs and priorities, and to contribute to the development of the options for meeting this region’s future electricity needs.

All interested parties are invited to participate in this engagement initiative and may include but are not limited to:

  • Municipalities of Oxford County, Middlesex County, Elgin County, City of London, City of St. Thomas and parts of Norfolk County.
  • Indigenous communities that may be potentially impacted or may have an interest based on treaty territory, traditional territory or traditional land uses: Aamjiwnaang First Nation, Caldwell First Nation, Chippewas of Kettle and Stony Point First Nation, Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, Eelūnaapèewi Lahkèewiit (Delaware Nation), Haudenosaunee Confederacy Chiefs Council, Mississauga of the Credit First Nation, Munsee-Delaware Nation, Oneida Nation of the Thames, Six Nations of the Grand River, and Walpole Island First Nation (Bkejwanong Territory).
  • Local distribution companies (LDCs) who serve the community including Hydro One Networks Inc., Entegrus Powerlines Inc., ERTH Power Inc., London Hydro Inc., Tillsonburg Hydro Inc.
  • Hydro One Transmission
  • Consumers and service providers for the area

London Area Working Group - The Technical Working Group is lead by the IESO, and consists of the LDCs in the region and the local transmitter. The group will use regional planning engagement initiatives to incorporate input while developing the IRRPs for the region.
