IESO Energy Surveys

Thank you for your interest in the IESO’s 2025 Home Energy Survey.

The IESO is responsible for forecasting Ontario’s electricity demand, evaluating the system’s ability to meet that demand, planning new infrastructure projects, securing new electricity supply, and overseeing the wholesale electricity market in real time. It also plays a leading role in promoting energy efficiency in the province, particularly through delivery of the Save on Energy programs. Learn more about the IESO.

For the 2025 Home Energy Survey, the IESO has contracted with energy consultant Cadmus Group to support design of the survey, and market research firm Forum Research to deliver the survey and report results. Participation is limited to pre-registered online panellists.

Information collected from survey participants is anonymized and considered confidential. It can only be accessed by the IESO and those working on its behalf.

To inform broader utility planning and energy research, the IESO will publish summarized results from the study. These results will be aggregated to the IESO transmission zone level (for electricity planning purposes, the province is divided into 10 transmission zones) and will not share information on individual homes.

The IESO periodically conducts surveys to better understand the quantity, type, efficiency, and usage of energy-consuming equipment in the province’s homes and businesses. The surveys produce valuable information for understanding current electricity usage patterns and for the forecasting of future electricity needs. These surveys also help identify opportunities to improve the energy efficiency programs offered to Ontarians. Participation in the survey helps the IESO ensure a reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity grid.
