Regional Electricity Planning - Barrie/Innisfil

Forecasting and Planning

Regional electricity planning has commenced for the Barrie/Innisfil sub-region. This engagement initiative will provide interested parties with an opportunity to offer input for consideration as the process is underway on the development of an Integrated Regional Resource Plan (IRRP) anticipated to be complete in Q2 2022.

Regional electricity plans take a 20-year outlook on every region in the province. The planning process provides an opportunity for communities to tell the IESO about anticipated needs and priorities and to contribute to the development of the options for meeting this region’s future electricity needs.

All interested parties are invited to participate in this engagement initiative and may include but are not limited to:

  • The townships of Essa, Springwater, Clearview, Mulmur, and Adjala-Tosorontio, the towns of Innisfil, New Tecumseth, and Bradford West Gwillimbury, as well as the City of Barrie
  • Indigenous communities including Chippewas of Georgina Island, Huron Wendat, Kawartha Nishnawbe, Métis Nation of Ontario - Georgian Bay Métis Council, Métis Nation of Ontario - Moon River Métis Council, and Métis Nation of Ontario - Barrie South Simcoe Métis Council
  • Local distribution companies (LDCs) who serve the community including Alectra Utilities, InnPower, and Hydro One Networks
  • Transmitters
  • Consumers and service providers for the area

Additional details on the IESO’s plans to engage with communities and interested parties throughout this process will be posted as part of a draft engagement plan, that will be open to public comment before finalizing by early Q4 2021.

Barrie/Innisfil Technical Working Group- A Technical Working Group consisting of the LDCs in the region (listed above), the local transmitter, Hydro One Networks and the IESO will use this regional planning engagement initiative to consider input that will identify and meet local electricity needs.

All comments and enquiries in this engagement initiative can be directed to engagement@ieso.ca.
