Smart Metering Entity Expands Third Party Access to Smart Meter Data

The IESO, in its capacity as the Smart Metering Entity (SME), has expanded third party access to de-identified smart meter data to include eligible Canadian-Status Non-Governmental Entities, following the Ontario Energy Board’s Decision and Order issued on March 31, 2026.
This change enables eligible Canadian organizations to request access to de-identified Residential, Small General Service and Net Metering customer data, supporting research, analysis, and innovation across Ontario’s electricity sector while maintaining applicable privacy and security safeguards.
