Uncompetitive Intertie Zone Assessment Completed
July 17, 2026
The IESO has completed its quarterly assessment of Uncompetitive Intertie Zone (UIZ) designations. Minnesota (MNSI) has been designated a new UIZ effective the July 17, 2026, trading day. To view all current UIZ designations, visit the Uncompetitive Intertie Zones webpage.
The IESO evaluates intertie zones on a quarterly basis to ensure fair and transparent market competition. Some factors that may result in a zone being declared uncompetitive include lack of a market for imports or exports with open access to transmission, high transmission access fees, or regulatory barriers restricting trade. UIZs are used to apply after-the-fact settlement charges to market participants that unfairly benefit from intertie market conditions.
