Long-Term 2 Capacity Stream Results Announced
June 19, 2026
The first window of the Second Long-Term Request for Proposals (LT2) has ended. Under the capacity stream, the IESO has offered 20-year contracts to three new-build battery storage facilities. Together, these projects will add 640 MW of capacity to Ontario’s grid, exceeding the target for the window and bringing Ontario’s total battery storage to over 3,500 MW by 2030.
The IESO leveraged competition to procure these resources at a price 36 per cent lower than the battery storage procured under the Expedited First Long-Term Request for Proposals and 16 per cent lower than battery storage procured under the First Long-Term Request for Proposals.
The projects, located in northern, southwestern, and eastern Ontario, were all brought forward with support from municipalities and partnership with Indigenous communities.
LT2 is the largest electricity system procurement in Ontario’s history, with more windows planned in the coming years.
