IESO.ca Integrates Demand Side Management Activations into Website

May 29, 2026

Beginning this summer, the IESO’s website will feature activations of its Save on Energy Peak Perks and new Peak Performance programs during peak demand periods. A new demand response alert notice will appear on the Peak Tracker, Power Data, and Market Data webpages when these programs are scheduled to support system reliability. The IESO will publish notices of demand response scheduling via the Day 0 RSS Feed, and if scheduled in the day-ahead market, a notice will also appear in the Day 1-34 RSS Feed.

The IESO’s Save on Energy demand response programs help maintain electricity grid reliability during periods of high demand. More than 320,000 Peak Perks participants contribute at least 220 MW toward grid reliability on peak demand days, making this group the largest virtual power plant in Canada.

The integration of these events into the IESO’s website comes in response to sector stakeholders seeking a clearer view of demand response activations, and it brings greater transparency to when the Save on Energy Peak Perks and Peak Performance programs are scheduled in the day-ahead or real-time market.
