IESO Reliability Outlook - Ontario Electricity System Prepared Through - June 2027

December 22, 2025

As we mark the beginning of the winter season, Ontario’s electricity grid is prepared for the next 18 months, with sufficient supply expected to be available to meet the needs of residents, businesses and communities, according to IESO’s latest Reliability Outlook (RO). While long-term growth is expected to remain strong, as represented by the electrification of the transportation and industrial sectors, this RO reflects lower demand projections compared with previous forecasts due to expected slower economic growth brought on by ongoing trade disruptions. Electricity demand is expected to modestly grow over the RO period, with a projected increase of approximately 1.6 per cent in 2026.

For this RO period, which includes Pickering coming offline for refurbishment, Ontario's electricity system is expected to remain adequate thanks to new battery storage projects procured through the Expedited Long-Term Request for Proposals (RFP) and the first Long-Term RFP beginning commercial operations; resources secured via the 2024 Capacity Auction; and resources re-contracted through the second Medium-Term RFP.
