Monthly Market Results Demonstrate Value of Day-Ahead Market

In its first three months of operation, the IESO’s day-ahead market is clearing the vast majority of the energy needed to meet Ontario’s reliability needs. Ninety-six per cent of energy was cleared through the day-ahead market, with the remainder secured in the real-time market which balances supply and demand based on current conditions. By locking-in prices a day ahead, consumers and suppliers have greater financial certainty which in turn provides greater operational certainty to the IESO in managing the grid.
An overview of pricing for the months of May, June, and July is available in a new infographic that shows monthly average prices in the day-ahead and real-time markets, as well as the final Ontario Electricity Market Price or “Ontario Price” paid by non-dispatchable load and other wholesale customers.
