IESO asked to apply surcharge on electricity exports to the U.S.
March 10, 2025
In accordance with the regulations enacted by the Government of Ontario and at the request of the Minister of Energy and Electrification, the IESO has implemented a tariff response charge on all exports of electricity from Ontario’s electricity market to U.S. jurisdictions effective March 10. As requested in the Minister’s letter, the IESO is applying a charge of $10/MWh to electricity exports, which equates to a charge of approximately 25 per cent.
This charge will not result in any immediate impacts to the reliability of Ontario’s electricity system. The IESO will continue to monitor its impact and engage with government and neighbouring system operators including those in the United States.
