Canada Electricity Advisory Council Releases Recommendations

June 13, 2024

The Canada Electricity Advisory Council ('the Council') released its final report this week with several recommendations on how to support Canada’s transition to a clean electricity grid.

The Council was convened by the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources Canada. The IESO’s President and CEO, Lesley Gallinger, was a member of the council alongside other electricity sector leaders from across the country.

The IESO supports the recommendations laid out in the Clean Electricity Advisory Council’s report. The Council’s recommendations provide an informed perspective on the work needed to decarbonize and grow our electricity system while maintaining reliability and affordability.

Among the Council’s recommendations were a call for greater flexibility in the draft Clean Electricity Regulations, proposed changes to Clean Electricity Investment Tax Credits and unanimous support for the Indigenous Loan Guarantee program.
