Ministry Releases "Powering Ontario's Growth" Report and Letters to IESO

The Ministry of Energy released the “Powering Ontario’s Growth” report on July 10, 2023, which outlines actions to support economic growth, decarbonization and the ongoing transformation of Ontario’s electricity system.
The new report is informed by the IESO’s “Pathways to Decarbonization” study and subsequent public consultation, and outlines plans for new generation, transmission development and energy efficiency programs. The IESO will support and work with communities and sector partners to implement many of these actions, including:
- Collaborating with Bruce Power and Ontario Power Generation on pre-development work for potential new nuclear generation
- Reporting back on the design of the second Long-Term Procurement to acquire non-emitting resources
- Supporting a Ministry of Energy consultation on a post-2024 conservation and demand management framework
- Assessing additional transmission needs to support new generation and growing demand in the province
These government actions, together with the procurements underway to secure long-term supply, will ensure Ontario’s electricity system is well-positioned for the future.
