Smart Metering Charge Rebate

Further to the letter issued by the Ontario Energy Board (OEB), effective January 1, 2018, the new Smart Metering Charge (SMC) per smart meter per month is $0.57.
Electricity distributors will receive a rebate reflecting the amounts that they overpaid the Smart Metering Entity (SME) for the period January 1, 2018 to March 31, 2018. The amount of the rebate per smart meter per month is $0.218 ($0.788 - $0.57).
The rebate will be included on the March 31 preliminary settlement statement and March 2018 invoice, both issued on April 16. The rebate will be reflected under charge type 9980 ‘Smart Metering Charge’.
The Smart Metering Charge is levied and collected by the IESO from all Local Distribution Companies (LDC) identified in the latest OEB’s annual ‘Yearbook of Electricity Distributors’, effective January 1. This charge represents the OEB approved rate per month for each Residential and General Service (<50kW) customers for each LDC and is applied monthly and includes the charges for the following month.
