Cooperation in cybersecurity is key for sector resiliency

The importance of effective cybersecurity at all levels of the electricity system has never been greater. Alex Foord, the IESO’s Chief Information Officer and Vice President of Information and Technology Services recently met with leading provincial and territorial security officials to address ways to support cooperative cyber and physical security models across provincial jurisdictions.
Safeguarding the security of Ontario’s electricity system is priority for the IESO, which is why the IESO facilitates sector capability building through the Cybersecurity Forum to help identify emerging threats to energy infrastructure and promote best practices on information security management. The IESO plans to evolve this capability with a more broad-based program to address needs of both smaller and large sector participants, and is supporting the development of new policies and industry frameworks that focus on reliability, security and privacy.
