Brad Carr, President, Canada, Mattamy Homes: Brad Carr joined Mattamy Homes as President, Canada in June 2013. In his role he has responsibility for all of Mattamy’s Canadian Operations in the Greater Toronto Area, Ottawa, Calgary and Edmonton. Prior to joining Mattamy Mr. Carr spent 12 years at Monarch Corporation in a variety of roles including President. Mr. Carr graduated from Ryerson University in 1996 with a Bachelor's degree in Architectural Science. In addition to his role at Mattamy, Mr. Carr currently serves as the volunteer Board President for Drayton Entertainment a professional theatre company with seven theatres located across South Western Ontario.
Chris Carradine, Executive Vice President, Business Development, Ecobee: Chris Carradine has helped many companies achieve their social, financial and environmental performance targets over the past 20 years, making him a perfect fit for ecobee. Since joining ecobee in 2008, Chris has been instrumental in helping grow the business and introducing customers to the powerful impact of home automation. Today, as Executive Vice President at ecobee, Chris is responsible for strategic partnerships for both utility, commercial and OEM customers. Outside of the office, when not enjoying his cottage, Chris can often be found coaching kids' soccer or hitting the ski slopes with his family during the winter.
David Collie, President & CEO, Electrical Safety Authority: David Collie is the President and CEO of the Electrical Safety Authority, the safety regulator and advocate for public electrical safety in Ontario.
David is known as a leader and expert in the energy sector, having led organizations in electricity, natural gas and water distribution. He is passionate about driving innovation with a vision for Ontario and Canada to be the leader in energy transformation. He is a prominent public speaker on topics such as smart grid, electric vehicles, and distributed energy resources.
Chair of the Board of Directors of Plug ‘n Drive, and Vice Chair of the Energy Council of Canada, David is active in the energy policy and transformation space. He is also a member of the Smart Grid Canada Board of Directors, and former Chair of the Electricity Distributors Association (EDA).
David holds MBA, FCPA, FCMA and Chartered Director designations and is a Faculty Member, and the Energy Executive in Residence, of the Directors College of Canada. He has written a number of articles and cases on good governance practices and presented at numerous conferences. He is also a Guest Faculty member at the Strategic Management of Regulatory and Enforcement Agencies program at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
Carlyle Coutinho, President & COO, Enwave: Carlyle Coutinho is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Enwave, Canada. Carlyle has full oversight of the Canadian business, including growth and business transformation of the Canadian district energy platforms. Carlyle began his career with Enwave as Chief Financial Officer.
Prior to joining Enwave in 2013, Carlyle held progressively senior investment and operational positions in private equity and debt investment in Canada and the United States. Carlyle began his career in public accounting with KPMG and Deloitte.
Carlyle earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder.
Ron Dizy, Co-Founder & Managing Director, Red Jar Capital: Ron is co-Founder and Managing Director at Red Jar Capital with over 25 years of experience as both an operator and investor in the technology and advanced energy sectors. Ron’s role is to manage the day to day operations and the investment process at Red Jar, lead investments and find ways to consistently add value to Red Jar’s portfolio and partner companies.
Prior to joining Red Jar, Ron was the Chief Commercial Officer at Spark Power, where he led sales, product management & marketing, business development, and corporate strategy, with a focus on bringing new customer-centric solutions to the industrial, commercial, and utility markets. Before that, he was the SVP of Partnerships at MaRS where he was responsible for helping utilities around the world find ways to adopt innovation at scale, to help them survive in a world being rapidly changed by technology, customer preferences, and regulation. His previous career experience also includes:

Mark Fernandes, Chief Information & Technology Officer, Hydro Ottawa Limited: As Chief Information and Technology Officer, Mark Fernandes provides vision and leadership for the development and implementation of technology initiatives that support the advancement of Hydro Ottawa's business strategy and priorities. In his role, Mark oversees Technology Planning and Governance, Cyber Security, Grid Technology, Enterprise Architecture, System Development and Integration and IT/OT Operations. He also serves on the board of a Joint Venture District Thermal Utility and heads a number of energy innovation initiatives and projects.
Prior to joining Hydro Ottawa, Mark worked in the business and consumer software industry for over 16 years, managing IT Strategy, Operations, e-Commerce, Web Development, Cloud Infrastructure models, and mergers and acquisitions.
Paul Grod, President & CEO, Rodan Energy Solutions: Prior to co-founding Rodan Energy in 2003, Paul was a corporate and investment banker with CIBC World Markets and later practiced corporate finance and M&A law with Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP, one of Canada’s largest national law firms.
Paul is a member of the Law Society of Ontario and holds a Bachelor of Political Science degree, a Bachelor of Laws degree, and a Master of Business Administration degree.
Anthony Haines, President & CEO, Toronto Hydro: Anthony Haines is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Toronto Hydro Corporation and its subsidiaries, one of the largest urban electricity distribution companies in North America. He is a seasoned leader with over 30 years of experience in both natural gas and electricity, and brings a unique perspective to the Canadian energy industry.
Mr. Haines is currently a board member of Ontario Energy Association (OEA) and has served as past Chair. He is also a board member of the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) and former Chair. He has received a number of industry accolades, including the Electricity Distributors Association's Chair's Citation Award, OEA's Leader of the Year, Corporate Responsibility Association's North America CEO of the Year (first Canadian to receive) and Energy Council of Canada's 2014 Canadian Energy Person of the Year.
In addition to his commitment to the energy industry, Mr. Haines is actively involved in philanthropic activities. He is most proud of his fundraising efforts for the Ross Tilley Burn Center at Sunnybrook Hospital, the largest and most advanced burn treatment centre in Canada. Mr. Haines is responsible for Toronto Hydro's charity golf tournament which has raised millions of dollars for electrical injury rehabilitation research.
Tyler Hamilton, Senior Manager, Partnerships, Cleantech, MaRS Discovery District: Tyler Hamilton is Director of Cleantech Ecosystem at MaRS Discovery District, responsible for building a network of investors, innovation organizations and government agencies that can help Canadian cleantech ventures raise capital and scale globally. Previous to MaRS, Tyler spent two decades as a business journalist (Globe and Mail, Toronto Star) and wrote extensively about Canada’s clean technology sector and global cleantech trends. He was also Editor-In-Chief of the business and sustainability magazine Corporate Knights. In 2011, Tyler authored Mad Like Tesla, a book that examines the various barriers to clean energy innovation and surveys the landscape of some potentially world-changing clean technologies. A recipient of the Cleantech Group’s “Pioneer” award for his early writings on the sector, Tyler was also recognized in 2016 on Canada’s “Clean50” list for his thought leadership on clean energy and climate issues.
Cynthia Hansen, Executive Vice President & President, Gas Distribution & Storage, Enbridge Gas Distribution: Cynthia is responsible for the overall leadership and operations of Enbridge Gas Inc., one of North America’s largest natural gas utilities, as well as Gazifère. She also holds responsibility for work and asset management functions across the enterprise. Cynthia has more than 21 years of experience at Enbridge, working in operational, financial and safety leadership roles as President, Enbridge Gas Distribution and Senior Vice President, Operations within Liquids Pipelines. Prior to joining Enbridge, she worked as a Principal for PricewaterhouseCoopers. Cynthia is a member of Calgary-based Enbridge Inc.’s Executive Leadership Team reporting to the CEO.
Cynthia serves on the board of the Ontario Energy Association, Energy Council of Canada, and Energir. In the past, she has served on the boards of the Canadian Gas Association, the Canadian Energy Pipelines Association (CEPA), the Alberta Chamber of Resources, the University of Alberta School of Business Advisory Council, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, and NorQuest College, among others.
Cynthia has been named to the Women’s Executive Network Hall of Fame after being recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women multiple times and was recognized as a Canadian Business Leader by Catalyst Canada. Cynthia lives in Toronto with her husband.
Brian Hewson, Vice-President, Consumer Protection and Industry Performance, Ontario Energy Board: This division is responsible for delivering on the OEB’s consumer protection mandate through the management of codes and rules, addressing consumers’ complaints about regulated companies and acting as a liaison with industry stakeholders. It is also responsible for oversight functions relating to the audit of regulated entities, assessment of utility performance, licensing of energy companies and the OEB’s compliance and enforcement activities.
Brian Hewson joined the Ontario Energy Board in 1991. He was appointed Vice President in November 2016. Prior to his most recent appointment he held the position of Director, Strategic Policy, responsible for developing policy proposals and options for implementing the OEB’s strategic vision for the energy sector, including developing a new regulatory framework focused on performance and planning. Prior to this, as the OEB’s Chief Compliance Officer, Brian developed an integrated compliance program focused on protecting the interests of consumers and ensuring that regulated companies understood and achieved their regulatory obligations. He has also led various taskforces to develop technical codes and standards for the electricity market and electric utility operations.
Chris Ireland, Managing Director, Infrastructure and Natural Resources, Greenfield Investments and Renewables, Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan: Chris Ireland is responsible for leading the Greenfield & Renewables investment mandate for Ontario Teachers' Infrastructure team. Chris was a lead on the formation of Cubico Sustainable Investments and serves as a board member. Cubico has grown to over 3 GW and operates in 12 countries. Chris also led our investments into Anbaric Development Partners and STEM Inc., which were both innovative ways to invest in and support the renewables build-out.
Chris also serves on the board Anbaric Development Partners, and is a former board member of eight other portfolio companies. Prior to joining Ontario Teachers', Chris was an investment banker, power plant developer and an engineer for a large EPC company.
Chris earned a BASc in Mechanical Engineering and an MASc in Atmospheric Fluid Mechanics, both from the University of Waterloo. He also has an MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University. He completed ICD education at the University of Toronto and is a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
David Lebeter, Chief Operating Officer from Hydro One Inc.: David Lebeter is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Hydro One Networks Inc., a role he assumed in January 2020. Mr. Lebeter is responsible for transmission and distribution at the utility including construction, maintenance, vegetation management and system operations. He is also responsible for Hydro One Remote Communities, which serves remote communities in Ontario’s far north.
Mr. Lebeter has over 38 years’ experience in the utility and forestry sectors, and has been a vocal leader and a strong advocate for a safe and engaged workforce.
Before joining Hydro One he held executive positions at BC Hydro, including Senior Vice-President of Safety and Vice-President of Transmission & Distribution Field Operations. Mr. Lebeter spent 23 years in the forest industry prior to joining the utility sector, working in leadership positions responsible for operations.
He holds an Executive Masters of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University, has completed the Queen’s Executive Program, holds a Bachelor of Science in Forest Engineering from the University of British Columbia, and is a Registered Professional Forester in B.C.
He has previously served as an Executive Board Member for Smart Grid Northwest, as an Operations Board Member for Western Energy Institute, and as the Chairman of the Distribution Council with the Canadian Electricity Association. He holds his ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
Jeff Lehman, Mayor, City of Barrie: Jeff Lehman is the 46th Mayor of the City of Barrie, having been re-elected to a third term in 2018 with 91% of the popular vote. As the head of Council, he is leading Barrie through a period of rapid change. During his first term in office, Barrie led all metropolitan areas east of Alberta in the rate of job creation. From 2014-2017, Lehman chaired Ontario’s Big City Mayors’ Caucus (LUMCO), representing Ontario’s 28 largest cities. In 2015, Barrie was named the safest big city in the country, and was just named Canada’s 3rd most entrepreneurial city by the Financial Post. Mayor Lehman is also a founding director of Alectra, the second largest community-owned utility in North America, serving more than a million customers in southern Ontario.
He holds a B.A. from Queen’s University, and a Master’s degree with first class honours from the UK’s London School of Economics. As an economist, he worked with cities across the country to manage redevelopment and invest in their urban infrastructure, and writes and speaks frequently on issues affecting Canada’s cities. In 2017, he was awarded the Gil Bennett Award by the Conference Board of Canada for excellence in corporate governance education through the Director’s College. He was also named the 2017 Community Leader Influencer of the Year by the Economic Developers Council of Ontario. In 2019, the prestigious US business magazine Fast Company named Lehman number 26 in its top 100 Most Creative People in Business for his innovative solutions in government. Mayor Lehman is a passionate believer in transforming urban economies through public and private entrepreneurship.
David McFadden, President & CEO, Generation 4 Capital Corporation: David is the Chair of the Board of Directors of Toronto Hydro Corporation, 407 International Inc. and PCI Geomatics Inc. He serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Cricket Energy Holdings Inc. and Makwa Development Corporation.
David is Chair of the Energy Transformation Network of Ontario, a member of the MaRS Energy Board and a member of the Council for Clean and Reliable Energy. He served previously as the Chair of the Board of the Ontario Energy Association.
David was a partner at Gowling WLG for over 30 years where he acted for corporations, municipalities and utilities involved in the generation, distribution, transmission, marketing and financing of energy. He served on the Gowling WLG Executive Committee and Board of Trustees and was Chair of the firm’s Energy and Infrastructure Industry Group and International Management Committee.
David is on the Board of Governors of York University and chairs the Board’s Governance and Human Resources Committee. David received an Honorary Doctorate from York University in 2012.
He previously served as Chair of the Toronto Region Board of Trade. As Chair, David launched the Board of Trade’s focus on energy and infrastructure development and renewal in the Greater Toronto Area.
David was Chair of the Board of the Ontario Centres of Excellence Inc. (2004-2010) and in that position led the creation of the Centre of Excellence for Energy which has supported energy innovation across Ontario.
David has also served as Chair of the Stakeholder’s Alliance for Electricity Competition and Customer Choice, was a member of the U.S.-Canada Power System Outage Task Force which investigated the massive blackout in August 2003, co-led an investigation team into the 2006 nationwide blackout in Jamaica, was a Member of the Ontario Ministry of Energy’s Electricity Conservation and Supply Task Force (2003-2004) and served on the Ontario Distribution Sector Review Panel (2012). David was named the Leader of the Year by the Ontario Energy Association in 2013.
William Milroy, P. Eng. Vice President Engineering and Operations, London Hydro: Bill has held engineering, senior management and executive leadership roles in the utility industry for over forty years and is presently responsible for Engineering & Operation functions at London Hydro.
Bill has been an active participant on key industry committees and panels including the OEB PBR Task Force, the Market Design Technical Panel, the OEB Smart Meter Initiative, and the DSM & DR Advisory Group. Throughout his career at the former Ontario Hydro, Markham Hydro, PowerStream, and London Hydro, Bill has been a leader in leveraging emerging technologies and innovative processes to ensure a reliable, safe, cost effective, and sustainable system evolves to meet the changing needs and values of the customer. Bill is currently overseeing leading edge grid modernization projects that include DER, advanced control systems, solar generation, battery storage, EV’s and a net zero community microgrid.
Bill holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto and is a registered professional engineer in the province of Ontario.
Steven Muzzo, Chairman, President & CEO,
Ozz Clean Energy, Ozz Electric: Steven Muzzo is the Founder of OZZ Electric and currently holds the position of Chief Executive Officer and Chairman. Established in 1991, OZZ Electric is a full-service electrical, data communications and green energy company, with over 1,000 employees servicing the ICI and Multi-Residential markets in Canada and the USA. Over the last 20 years, Mr. Muzzo has established a variety of businesses in the energy and renewable energy sector. These businesses include:
Trilliant Inc. (2000), a global leader providing intelligent network solutions and software to utilities around the world for advanced metering, demand response, and smart grid management. Trilliant provides product and services across 20 countries, deploying over 31 million end points, and currently hold 60 patents and 13 patents pending. Steven currently serves as a Director of Trilliant Inc. and majority shareholder.
OZZ Clean Energy (2009), an energy service company specializing in rooftop solar, ground-mount solar, energy reduction services, EV charging design and solutions, CHP, and energy storage solutions. Steven Muzzo currently serves as the Chairman of OZZ Clean Energy Inc.
Cricket Energy Holdings Inc., an energy solutions provider which includes three subsidiaries; Cricket Home Comfort (2013) offering rental hot water tank solutions in the new construction and existing Residential and Commercial markets; Provident Energy Management (2015) offering suite metering solutions and building automation services; and EQ Building Performance Inc., providing sustainability consulting, LEED consulting, energy modeling and commissioning services. Steven Muzzo currently serves as the Chairman of Cricket Energy Holdings Inc.
Dr. Jatin Nathwani, Executive Director, Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy, University of Waterloo: Professor Nathwani is the founding Executive Director, Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy (WISE) and holds the prestigious Ontario Research Chair in Public Policy for Sustainable Energy at the University of Waterloo.
Professor Nathwani, with Co-Director, Prof. Joachim Knebel (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany), has established a platform for a Global Change Initiative - Affordable Energy for Humanity (AE4H). The consortium comprises 150+ leading STEM and social science researchers, energy access thought leaders and practitioners from 50 institutions in 30 countries committed to eradicating energy poverty by 2030.
WISE brings together the expertise of UW faculty members to develop and implement large-scale multi-disciplinary research projects in collaboration with business, industry, governments and civil society groups. The vision of the Institute is simple: clean energy that is accessible and affordable for all.
Prior to his appointment at the University in 2007, Professor Nathwani worked in a leadership capacity in the Canadian energy sector over a 30-year period. He brings a unique combination of academic perspectives with extensive experience in the business sector that includes corporate planning and strategy, energy sector policy developments, power system planning, environmental and regulatory affairs and research program management.
Professor Nathwani serves on several boards at the provincial and national levels, has appeared frequently in the media (print, TV, radio) and has released over 100 publications related to energy policy, environment and risk management, including seven books. He is a Registered Professional Engineer (PEO) in the Province of Ontario, Canada.
Nicholas Pender, Vice President of Energy Markets, Ontario Power Generation: Nick is the Vice President of Energy Markets for Ontario Power Generation. In this role he is accountable for all of OPG’s commercial operations including the commercial contracts with the IESO and neighbouring jurisdictions, market affairs, the 24/7 power control centre and trading activities in Ontario and the US North East.
With strengths in strategic thinking and facilitative leadership, Nick has broad energy market, origination and commercial contract experience gained with OPG since 2017 and over a decade of market, asset and customer experience gained with EDF in the UK, a global leader in low-carbon energy.
With a keen interest in practical strategies that deliver economic, social and environmental benefits, Nick is an advocate for the development of an efficient and innovative energy sector.
Nick has an MBA from the Insead Business School (Paris) and a designation as an International Project Manager.
Alexandre Prieur, Director, Renewable Energy Integration, CanmetENERGY: Alexandre Prieur is the Director of the Renewable Energy Integration group at CanmetENERGY, an energy and science research laboratory of the federal Department of Natural Resources Canada. Prior to joining NRCan in 2009, he worked for 10 years in the private sector, in the telecommunication industry. Alexandre is now leading a research group on grid integration of renewables and smart grid.
Matthew Sachs, Chief Operating Officer, Peak Power: Matthew Sachs is COO of Peak Power, an energy storage services provider focused on delivering innovative consumer-focused solutions to offset the most expensive hours of electric demand. Peak has developed an industry-leading software platform that uses machine learning to optimize the operation of behind-the-meter energy storage systems and other distributed energy resources. Matthew has extensive experience in the energy space, as a member of the Ontario IESO’s Market Renewal Working Group, the OEB’s DERs Connection Working Group, and a founding board member of BGIS’ Building Energy Innovators Council. Prior to joining Peak Power, Matthew was General Manager of Urbandale Construction, a leading Ottawa homebuilder specializing in energy-efficient homes.
Neetika Sathe, Vice-President, GRE&T Centre, Alectra Inc.: Neetika Sathe is Vice President of the Alectra Green Energy & Technology Centre (GRE&T Centre) where she leads innovation projects in the energy industry.
Through Neetika’s direction, the GRE&T Centre is Alectra's latest step to be at the forefront of exciting industry changes to make energy innovations come to life by identifying, evaluating, developing and accelerating emerging, green, clean, and customer-friendly energy solutions across Alectra's service territory.
Previously, Neetika was the Chief Marketing Manager for Nissan LEAF and Cross-Overs in Canada, responsible for sales and profitability for her portfolio, including the launch of the Nissan LEAF in Canada. Neetika’s career path has seen her hold various positions in Corporate Development, Marketing, Supply Chain Management, Strategic Planning and Finance.
Neetika serves on the board of several industry associations such as Electric Mobility Canada, and serves as Chair of the Board of the NSERC Energy Storage Technology (NEST) Network and Vice Chair of the National Electricity Roundtable.
Neetika holds a Masters degree in Physics from Panjab University, and an MBA from McMaster University.
Mike Smith, Director, Distribution and Agency Policy Branch, Strategic Network and Agency Policy Division, Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines: Mike Smith is Director of Distribution and Agency Policy at the Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines, and has been supporting the development of government policy regarding Ontario’s distribution sector for over eight years. During that time Mike has informed the government on emerging energy issues such as smart meters/smart grid, electric vehicles and energy storage. He has also overseen the government’s portfolio of energy technology demonstration projects and supported the launch of the Advanced Energy Centre at MaRS Discovery District. More recently he has informed the development of government policies related to rate mitigation and consumer protection, supported the Ontario Energy Board Modernization Review Panel and subsequent OEB governance reform legislation, and contributed to the design of the Natural Gas Expansion Program.
Katherine Sparkes, Senior Director, Emerging and Demand Side Resources, IESO: Katherine is the Senior Director, Emerging and Demand Side Resources at the IESO where she is responsible for driving initiatives in support of grid modernization and the removal of barriers to the deployment of cost-effective solutions that enhance the reliability, adequacy and affordability of Ontario’s electricity supply. Katherine and her team work with partners across the IESO and broader energy sector and beyond to understand and evaluate the capability of emerging technologies, services, practices and policies to meet Ontario’s current and future electricity needs. They also deliver a suite of award-winning conservation and demand management programs to Ontario electricity customers. Katherine has worked in the consulting and non-profit sectors and teaches in the Energy & Infrastructure Program at Osgoode Hall Law School. An urban planner by training, Katherine’s volunteer efforts are focused on improving the safety of Toronto’s streets in support of active transportation.
