The Conservation Fund provides financial support for innovative electricity conservation technologies, practices, research, and programs that will help Ontario reach its long-term energy conservation goals.
Applications for projects designed to develop or pilot innovative conservation technologies, practices, research and programs are welcome under the Conservation Fund.
Eligible projects can focus on one of the following categories:
Community of practice
Emerging technology development
Emerging technology demonstration
Projects relating to the research, development and demonstration of transmission, distribution, and electricity generation (e.g. solar, wind, waterpower, and fossil fuels) are not eligible for funding, with the exception of waste energy recovery projects.
The Conservation Fund does not provide funding to individuals, including incorporated individuals and sole proprietorships.
An IESO review committee will review applications using the following criteria:
Potential impact on program design and/or measures
Market, program or technical advance
Project team and partners
Local hydro company involvement
If the Project Overview Application is accepted, a representative from the Conservation Fund will invite the applicant to submit a full proposal. It can take up to two months for the project proposal to be reviewed, evaluated and revised.
