Message from Peter Gregg, President & CEO: New IESO Organizational Structure

October 30, 2017

I am pleased to inform you of a new organizational structure I have established for the IESO and announced today within our organization. This new structure aligns IESO’s efforts with an enterprise-wide view in support of our common purpose.  It also reinforces our commitment to market renewal.

Our business will be led within three main units: (1) Planning, Acquisition and Operations, (2) Policy, Engagement and Innovation, and (3) Corporate Resources.

(1) Planning, Acquisition and Operations brings together functions that are responsible for a reliable and efficient province-wide power system both today and in the future. This includes Planning, Market Design, Resource and Transmission Procurement, and Real Time Operations and Engineering. Leonard Kula has been appointed Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Planning, Acquisition and Operations. The Market Renewal Program is in this business unit to ensure that our market renewal efforts are aligned with planning and serve the future-oriented needs of operations.

(2) Policy, Engagement and Innovation will effectively develop policy that reflects the broader objectives of the IESO and Ontario’s electricity sector, including the need to foster innovation.  It also brings together functions that are responsible for energy policy implementation including Corporate Relations, Regulatory Affairs, Indigenous Relations, and Conservation.  Terry Young has been appointed Vice President of Policy, Engagement and Innovation.

(3) Corporate Resources supports the entire IESO in the execution of our mandate including Human Resources, Finance, Legal, and Information and Technology Services.

Michael Lyle has been appointed Vice President, Legal Resources and Corporate Governance and Kim Marshall will continue as Vice President, Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer.

Both JoAnne Butler and Doug Thomas have concluded their tenure with IESO. I would like to thank each of JoAnne and Doug for their significant contributions to the IESO. Please join me in wishing them well in their future endeavours.

I am initiating a search for a new Chief Information Officer, with the goal of making IESO a thought leader on cyber security in our sector.  In the meantime, Sorana Ionescu is taking on the leadership responsibility of acting Vice President, Information and Technology Services. I have also initiated a search for a new Vice President of Human Resources.

I recognize that these are significant changes for the IESO. However, I believe strongly that this new direction in leadership and organizational structure will enable us to deliver on our mandate with a consistent, focused and common purpose, better supporting our customers, communities and stakeholders.

I will continue to listen to you, our stakeholders, communities, and customers, and I look forward to continuing to work with you.

Peter Gregg
President & CEO
