Additional Market Renewal Resources
Market Renewal Education and Awareness Sessions
The IESO is hosting a series of education and awareness building sessions to provide stakeholders with a practical understanding of the key aspects of the energy stream high-level designs within the Market Renewal Program. The sessions will be of most interest for interested stakeholders who have been less involved in the detailed design engagement to date, but are now looking to gain an understanding of the key design concepts and implications from an operational perspective.
Each session will be targeted to a specific resource group (Consumers, Non-Quick Start Generators, Variable Generators, Hydro Generators, Traders or Other). A webinar option will be available for each session; however, participants are encouraged to attend in-person to maximize the learning and networking opportunities.
For more details, please register by emailing IESO Engagement at email@example.com and specify which session(s) you are interested in and who from your organization will be attending.
The education and awareness sessions will be held in downtown Toronto on the following dates:

Information Sessions for Local Distribution Companies
The IESO is hosting a series of webinars for Local Distribution Companies on Market Renewal and potential impacts to LDC processes and tools.
Introduction to Market Renewal and the Incremental Capacity Auction - August 17, 2018
Improving the way Ontario acquires the resources to meet longer-term resource adequacy needs through an Incremental Capacity Auction (ICA) is one of the key initiatives of Market Renewal. The ICA will develop an enduring market-based mechanism that will secure incremental capacity to help ensure Ontario’s reliability needs are met cost effectively. As part of the auction process, participants may seek new project connections or modifications to existing connections to the distribution system.
Incremental Capacity Auction – Technical Session - August 29, 2018
This webinar will be a follow-up to the previous Incremental Capacity Auction discussion. This session will focus on the technical aspects on potential distribution connection coordination opportunities. This session will be of particular interest to planning, operational, and regulatory specialists.
Please provide feedback by September 21, 2018, to firstname.lastname@example.org using this form. Feedback received will be summarized and will help inform further discussions at future stakeholder engagement meetings.
Introduction to Market Renewal and the Energy Workstream - September 18, 2018
This webinar will discuss Market Renewal and the initiatives in the Energy workstream - including changes to the nearer-term acquisition and dispatch of energy. The initiatives (the single schedule market, the day-ahead market and the enhanced real-time unit commitment mechanism) will impact the IESO-LDC settlement processes and tools.
Recorded Webinar: Request for Information about Non-emitting Resources
On December 21, 2017, the IESO hosted an information webinar to explain more about the Request for Information to be issued in February on the role of the non-emitting resources sector in the future electricity marketplace.
Recorded Webinar: Market Renewal Contracts
On October 31, 2017, the IESO hosted an information webinar on the Market Renewal Program aimed at electricity supply contract holders, who are also market participants.
During this webinar, the IESO provided an overview of the Market Renewal Program and discussed at a high-level the potential implications to existing contracts. The IESO also provided a framework and timing for future discussions related to contracts.
Brochure: Creating the Electricity Marketplace of Tomorrow
Creating the Electricity Marketplace of Tomorrow highlights the efforts of the IESO and stakeholders to update the current electricity market. These changes will ensure that Ontarians have a stable and reliable supply of electricity at the lowest cost while those working in the sector can rely on a stable, robust market that is prepared for whatever the future might hold.
Single Market Schedule Fact Sheets
A single schedule market is one of the initiatives of Market Renewal. The design requires the consideration of many, sometimes complex, factors. The IESO has created a series of Fact Sheets to help explain some of the issues.
The IESO hosted a number of education workshops in early 2107 to help stakeholders, market participants and the broader sector to better understand the design elements of the Market Renewal Program. Recorded presentations for each of these sessions are available below.
